The best device I ever bought from Thomas Conover was his Full-SIM Object Scanner Pro 2.3.263 which is truly amazing and shows every object on any sized parcel or sim until it stopped working for everyone (I think) last year (a DNS error no matter what PC it is run on). I have sent him many emails and his service used to be first class but I have not seen a single reply. I used to know from his groups that his account was last on about August 2020. I can still see his groups in his profile but I cannot see his membership of any of those groups now. I would be a terrible shame not to be able to use my Full-SIM Object Scanner Pro 2.3.263 which could find absolutely any object and then take you to it but it would be a tragedy to lose so talented a Creator as Thomas Conover. Kind Regards from Bralur Mapholisto (in SL)

I looked hard for him too.  I even checked obituaries.  Fortunately I didn't find him in the latter.

I talked to Linden Lab people about this problem.  They told me it would probably be a simple fix for someone with access to the source code. The problem is that when SL was moved to Amazion Cloud Services, the DNS server address would need an extra few digits on the front.  Here's a link to the LL forum about it:

There is no source code that I am aware of and in any event source code of what?  The Full-SIM Object Scanner Pro runs partly on the SL platform and partly on one's PC under Windows 10 in my case.

THe SL part, Full-SIM Object Scanner Pro 2.3.263 (WEAR ME), puts an object on the screen which, inter alia, generates a code, thus:

[13:29] AOS-Extreme:

Your unique Connection-key is:

324e9cc3-305b-3904-968a-72807ea6abc7

Then you run the PC Software which is called the Universal Gadget Controller and this puts the main part of the device on your pc. This puts various menus up one of which the unique Connection-Key is inserted. You then try to run the main program in the PC. But this is where it fails. When you try to "Connect" in the PC software, this error immediately appears:

Error: Could not find valid DNS-entry for the in world object. Pl;ease activate
the scanner inside secondlife before trying to connect.

But of course you have already done this and that's when any further functions cease.

Very sad. There is an option for Bugs and once that would go to Thomas Conover and alert him. I does not any longer. Nor does emailing him which was the way he used to respond to problems very speedily.

It was a wonderful product, not cheap but immensely useful. It permitted one to save a whole sim's objects, their positions, creators, owners and many such details to Windows Office if necessary or even Open Office, take you very accurately to any object on a parcel or full sim and so on. It was clearly a very complex product which ran on SL (searching for the objects using drones) and sending these details on to the PC for saving in a formatted state for saving.

It no longer works because the SL part is not communicating with the PC part due to the DNS problem.

A great shame.

My Apologies. The problem is apparently entirely in the SL part of the software.

If you attempt to do a parcel or sim search:

An Error appears in a blue box at the top left:

Bralur Mapholisto's AOS-Extreme

Object-DNS Error: [307]

Please Contact Thomas Conover directly
if this problem persists

But this is no longer possible

From the LL guy on the forum link I posted:

"It's peripherally related.

That product uses a HUD in the target region. When rezzed, the HUD provides a UUID key that you need to enter into the controller program on your PC. That key is part of the URL for the HUD, but the domain name part of that URL has also changed.

If you have modifiable source, you can modify the HUD to put out its full URL instead of just the key, and modify the controller to use that URL instead of constructing one using a fixed domain and that key. If you don't, then I'm afraid it's permanently broken."

Terry D.

I would do that if I knew how. I edit scripts but You did not give enough information about how to do it.

Yes, there are many of us who might be able to fix this but we're missing the most important part.  None of us have the necessary permissions to edit Conover's scripts in the HUD nor access to the code in the PC program.

"If you have modifiable source, you can modify the HUD to put out its full URL instead of just the key, and modify the controller to use that URL instead of constructing one using a fixed domain and that key."

He's saying:

1. The hud tells you the URL to use to connect to it from your PC, but it doesn't include the domain name which changed when SL was ported over to ACS (Amazon) which has a different domain from the former LL servers in Arizona.

2. The PC program assumes a domain name that was correct before (the old LL server domain) and isn't now.

3.  It would probably be a fairly easy fix (change the hud to send it's full NEW URL) and change the controller to input the entire URL including the domain name then they would (presumably) be able to connect.

4. We can't do either of those things because we can't edit the HUD script and we don't have source code for the PC program.

If I could find Mr Conover (assuming he's still alive somewhere) I'd offer him a lot of money to fix this. There's no other program that does this nor one as useful to me as his was.
